Reflections..
We’ve all heard the saying, “don’t get all bent out of shape.” It’s a popular western idiom. Being bent out of shape is another way of saying a situation or circumstance that took you out of your normal character.
In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth. He spoke everything into existence and it was good. God’s word is the ultimate standard. In Genesis chapter 3 we are first introduced to a serpent slightly twisting God’s word… a.k.a the devil. We are introduced to one of the devil’s attributes, doubt. Before fear and shame came into the equation later in the chapter, the first characteristic of satan was doubt. He questioned Eve and challenged God’s word saying, “did God really say…” This set in motion the thread throughout scripture of God’s word (Truth) vs the devil’s lies. Satan does not come with a bull horn and a pitch fork announcing himself, but he comes in subtly…crafty.
Perversion is taking anything that God created and twisting, bending or distorting it out of its original purpose. When we put this in the lens of identity, there’s truly life and death in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Words mold and shape our realities whether we realize it or not. Everything begins with a thought, and those invisible thoughts are manifested physically. Eve believed the words spoken by the serpent and thought God was withholding something from her. She doubted His goodness. The enemy’s whole purpose is to kill, steal and destroy, to distort God’s word. As children of God, when we believe the lies of the enemy, it bends us out of shape. If we continue to believe lies over the Truth of God’s word, we ended up as spiritual pretzels. Our adversary is after our faith in God’s word.
In Isaiah 45:2, scripture says “I will go before you and make the crooked places straight…” Luke 3 says this about Jesus “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight. Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill brought low; The crooked places shall be made straight and the rough ways smooth; and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”
“The crooked places shall be made straight and the rough ways smooth…”
At the end of the day, the battle is between Truth and lies…The Kingdom of Light and the kingdom of darkness. Light exposes and it reveals. Darkness is ambiguity, confusion, and chaos. In the beginning, Genesis 1:2-3 says “Now the earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Vs 3 And God said, “LET THERE BE LIGHT, AND THERE WAS LIGHT.” God is a God of order and anything outside of order is disfunction. God gives us His word to cast down every lie and imagination that exalts itself against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:5). Let’s allow the Word of God to make straight every lie. We are seated in heavenly places in Christ and the battle has already been won.
