Reflections..
Acts 24:2 “ When Paul was called in, Tertullus presented his case before Felix…”
In the books of Acts, chapter 24 you come a across a name that in the Greek means “triple-hardened” (G5061)…Tertullus. Tertullus was a well-versed lawyer of the law of God and chosen by the Jews to prosecute Paul before Governor Felix, in Rome.
He was very savvy with his words and if you were to only listen to his testimony alone, it would be convincing of the charges they brought against Apostle Paul. However, Proverbs 18:17 says “In a lawsuit the first to speak seems right, until someone comes forward and cross-examines. Truth will always expose Lies, Light will always reveal.
One of the chief weapons of the enemy of our soul is ambiguity. He thrives in darkness, confusion, and is the author of smoke and mirrors. The enemy utilizes large groups to further carry out his lying agendas. Throughout scripture we see examples of large groups coming together to oppose Jesus or those who were of were followers of God. The devil piggy backs off of mob like mentalities. When Jesus was before Pontus Pilate and Pilate wanted to release Him, the mob of people on one accord cried out to crucify him. In the book of Acts, chapter 19, there was mass confusion from the crowds who were working against Paul. Verse 32 says, “the assembly was in confusion: Some were shouting one thing, some another. Most of the people did not even know why they were there.” It is possible to be incredibly zealous, for the wrong thing.
The devil operates through a spirit of confusion. As scripture says, God is not the author of confusion. This is why lies can never or will ever stand up against the Spirit of Truth. To perpetuate a lie, it needs to be propped up. In our society today, we see groups congregate for the wrong things, driven by the wrong spirit. The enemy distorts scripture that says a matter is established by the testimony of 2 or 3 witnesses (Deuteronomy 19:15). He attempts to establish lies and have his follower’s co-sign…triple-hardened…
When Apostle Paul spoke to Governor Felix and revealed Truth, the Governor had a fuller understanding of the things of God and Paul was further protected from the lies of the Sanhedrin.
Jeremiah 23:29
“Is not My word like fire [that consumes all that cannot endure the test]? says the Lord, and like a hammer that breaks in pieces the rock [of most stubborn resistance]?”
