John 17:17 AMPC
“Sanctify them [purify, consecrate, separate them for Yourself, make them holy] by the Truth; Your Word is Truth.”
Reflections
In the garden started the war of words. Everything begins with a thought, and the thoughts which we cannot see can become visible through our actions. Scripture says, out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45). Even if physical words are not spoken, body language speaks volumes. It’s interesting how the word ‘Truth’ is singular, but lies is plural. Lies have to be propped up by other lies. They constantly shift and evolve into more elaborate forms of deception. Truth on the other hand is constant and it never changes.
When we experience things like anxiety, depression, bitterness, anger, jealousy, fear etc…what thoughts are we meditating on? In Matthew chapter 5, Jesus takes the traditional law and elevates it to another level, spiritually. He says adultery is not only the physical act, but even the thought behind it. The physical act of murder begins with a heart of hatred, anger.. Every lie must be replaced with Truth which is the Word of God. As it has been said, darkness cannot drive out darkness, but only Light can drive it out.
The enemy gains access through our experiences of hurt, pain, rejection, abandonment, or fear (for example) and the lie(s) build a fortified city in our hearts and minds, if not checked. Some of us have been carrying lies since our childhood, that are buried deep beneath the surface. Words that were spoken to us or about us that we continue to carry on into adulthood. Lies operate similar to an intricate root systems, but once the lie is exposed, so are all of its roots. Truth is the only power that can uproot a lie.
John 8:32 “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
