Reflections
I don’t knock the sinners prayer, because God uses all things, but I am not that fond of it either. One night as I was laying down, I began to think about it all. What we see a lot in the Churches today is boasting. They boast in numbers. They say things like, “300 people gave their life to Christ today” or “200 said the sinner’s prayer.” There’s a very thin line in the church glorifying herself and God getting the Glory. You won’t find the sinners prayer in the Bible, and I believe the reason why (my thoughts) is because the nature of mankind to make it about our own efforts. Instead of God getting the glory, we take ownership of someone’s salvation when that is the job of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in John 6:44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him.”
God does the converting and drawing and we are just His vessels. Another reason I am not fond of the sinners prayer is because it doesn’t cultivate discipleship. A lot of people today are not being discipled, but 5 years ago, they said repeated a prayer. Again, God uses all things and He will lead us all differently. I can count on 1 hand where God lead me to walk someone through that kind of prayer.
