Modern Warfare

John 6:35 “Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

While in meditation today, I begin to think about the lifestyle change God brought me into with regards to the food I eat. Back in 2022, my entire eating habits changed after finishing a periodic Daniel Fast. I went into the Fast to purge my body of certain food addictions, such as caffeine, excessive sugar, etc., but it completely morphed into me becoming Plant Based over time. It’s been a journey that started out with me being Vegetarian, to Vegan, and now Wholefood Plant Based. When I began this journey, I couldn’t even tell you there’s actually layers to being Plant Based and not all areas are created equal. God completely shifted the way I viewed food. I would have never imagined standing here today saying I have not consumed meat in almost 2 years (only by His grace). While in reflection, I begin to think about fast food from a physical and spiritual perspective.

The concept of fast food is reward now, pay later… instant gratification. Upon first consumption, it tastes wonderful, but then that same pleasurable food weaponizes itself against our bodies, launching an internal attack. The excessive saturated fats, high sodium and chemicals begin to tear down the walls of our immune system. The enemy is strategic. If he can have us destroy ourselves by our own actions, then his job is complete. He uses patters and cycles, perpetually through generations. The devil uses the same tactics.

Food is our source, our fuel, its what keeps us physically alive. We need it to survive, so why wouldn’t the enemy attack something that is vital to our existence. Why wouldn’t he try and corrupt it…As believers, Jesus said man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from His mouth. Jesus is our bread, His Word is our spiritual food, it is Life. The enemy has launched a massive campaign since the beginning of time to discredit, confuse, distort, misrepresent and remove the Word of God. The book of Luke says “God’s word is a seed,” and from the beginning of time, Satan has made war with the Seed of the woman and her offspring. Just like fast food, sin presents itself as pleasure at first. It holds great promises and sells satisfaction, but as we saw when Adam and Eve took a bite of the fruit from the tree, they died spiritually, fast food is deceptive just like sin. I heard someone say, “sin will never give what it promises.” In the same way fast food destroys our bodies and robs it of nutrition. Its a ticking time bomb, waiting to detonate. Am I willing to sacrifice my health at the expense of pleasure? The same can be said for lust. Am I willing to sacrifice my intimacy and relationship with God, for a moment of pleasure that leads to death and destruction..?

Am I willing to sacrifice my health at the expense of pleasure?”

When we go to a restaurant to sit down and dine, the process is not hasty, but takes time to prepare a meal. If we treat God’s word as a drive through service, and not like a home cooked meal, our spirit man will be malnutrition.
